VERMONT MAPLE SYRUP NUT CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 c. maple syrup
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. nuts

Cream shortening, add sugar and cream until fluffy. Blend in well beaten eggs. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together and stir into creamed mixture alternately with maple syrup and milk. Add nuts. Pour into well greased, floured 8x12 inch pan. Bake about 45 minutes in a moderate oven (350 degrees). Cool. Top with Maple Syrup Icing.
