DANISH SUGAR COOKIES 
2 c. sifted flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. powdered sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. vegetable shortening
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift flour, soda, cream of tartar, salt, and powdered sugar into large bowl of electric mixer. Add butter and vegetable shortening. Mix at low speed until mix resembles coarse crumbs. Blend egg and vanilla. Add to dry ingredients. Mix only until blended. Dough is fairly soft. Shape into one inch balls. Roll in sugar. Place two inches apart on ungreased sheet. Flatten to 1/4 inch with bottom of glass dipped in sugar. Bake at 350 degrees about 12 minutes or until delicately brown.

Yields about 6 dozen cookies.
