AUNT ELLA (STEINKAMP) BLEEM'S APPLE BUTTER RECIPE | |
1/4 bushel apples (Jonathan, Golden Delicious, McIntosh, mixed 4 1/2 lbs. sugar 2 tsp. cinnamon 2 c. water in bottom of home canner Wash apples thoroughly. Quarter and core the apples. Put the 2 cups of water in the bottom of the canner. Put in a layer of apples, then a layer of sugar - add cinnamon to the last layer. Put lid on home canner and add the clothespins around the edge of the lid to hold the lid down tightly. Cook very slowly (on low) for 4-5 hours. When the apples are very soft, sift while the fruit is hot. This may be eaten right away. Frozen or put in canning jars boiling hot and sealed, for later use. |
