CHERRY DESSERT 
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 c. oatmeal
1/2 c. butter flavored Crisco
4 c. (2 cans) sour cherries, drained (save juice for sauce)
2 tbsp. butter, sliced
1/4 c. white sugar

Sift flour with salt and baking soda. Add brown sugar. Mix in oatmeal and cut in butter until crumbly. Spread half in greased 9 x 9 inch pan. Dot with butter and add cherries. Sprinkle white sugar over cherries. Put remaining crumbs on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Serve with Cherry Sauce (below). Use remainder as cut bar cookies.

CHERRY SAUCE:

1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. cornstarch
2 c. cherry juice (add water if needed to complete amt.)
4 tbsp. butter
2 tsp. vanilla or almond flavoring

Mix sugar and cornstarch. Add cherry juice and mix thoroughly. Boil 5 minutes over moderate heat. Add butter and flavoring. Serve over Cherry Dessert.
