GRANDMA'S "JEFF DAVIS" PIE 
1 c. butter
1 tbsp. flour
1 c. rich cream
2 c. sugar
6 eggs

Cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Then add all 6 eggs and cream. Add flour and mix well. Pour into pie pan lined with puff paste and bake in slow oven until firm. Regular pastry may be used.

Puff pastry is sometimes also called puff paste. You can find it in the freezer section of the supermarket - one brand is Pepperidge Farm. You can also make it yourself at home. Puff pastry a very flaky pastry with many layers. You can also use a standard flaky pie recipe for this custard pie.

Use unsalted butter and cane sugar. My mother's family brought this recipe from Mississippi in the 1880's I've never seen it on puff pastry but I'm sure it will be good. Make sure to shake the cream carton like a fool because the fat from cream makes the consistency of the custard correct. If the custard doesn't happen properly it will weep puddles of butter on top. A jigger of bourbon in the pie and one in a good cup of chicory coffee go great together!!
