APPLE DUMPLINGS | |
2 1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 2/3 c. shortening 6 tbsp. water 6 med. tart apples 3/4 c. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. salt 2 tbsp. butter Sift flour and salt into bowl; add shortening and cut it in with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle in water and mix lightly. Turn onto pastry board; form into a ball. Roll dough to 1/8 inch thick and divide into 6 (6-inch) squares. Peel apples and core. Place an apple into the center of each square of pastry. Mix sugar, salt and cinnamon and fill the center of each apple. Dot the top with butter; bring up the four corners of the pastry to cover the apple. Moisten the edges and seal. Bake in a shallow baking dish in a 400 degree oven for 45 minutes. Serve warm in a bowl with milk. |
