THUMB PRINT COOKIES 
1 c. shortening (half butter and half butter)
1/2 c. brown sugar plus 2 tbsp. white sugar
2 egg yolks
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts
2 beaten egg whites

Cream butter, butter, sugar, egg yolks, and vanilla. Sift flour and salt together and add to creamed mixture. Roll into 1 inch balls and refrigerate

Dip into slightly beaten egg whites and nuts. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 5 minutes. Remove from oven.

Quickly press thumb gently on top of each cookie and drop 1/4 teaspoon jelly or candied fruit. Return to oven and bake 8 minutes longer at 375 degrees. When cool, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
