THUMB PRINT COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening, half butter
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. crushed nuts

Cream shortening, sugar and egg yolk; add vanilla. Then add flour and salt. Roll into small balls. Dip in slightly beaten egg white. Roll in 3/4 cup nuts. Bake at 375 degrees for 5 minutes. Remove from oven. Press thumb on top of each cookie. Bake 8 minutes more. You may fill them with jelly after removing them from oven. Makes 2 dozen.
