CHICKEN IN A POT 
2 carrots, sliced
2 onions, sliced
2 celery stalks, 1" pieces
3 lb. whole fryer or 1 chicken, cut up
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1/2 c. water or chicken broth
1 tsp. basil

Put carrots, onions and celery in bottom of crock pot; add chicken. Top with salt, pepper and liquid. Sprinkle basil over top. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or at high for 3 1/2-5 hours (using 1 cup water). 3 1/2 quart crock pot; serves 4.
