NOWELL COOKIES 
3/4 c. softened butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 c. cherries, finely chopped
Few drops red coloring
1 square melted chocolate
1/4 c. finely chopped nuts
2 tbsp. coconut (fine)
1/2 tsp. almond extract

Cream butter and sugar; add egg and vanilla; mix well. Add sifted dry ingredients and mix well. Divide dough into 3 parts. In first part put the coconut and almond extract. In second part put 1 square chocolate and 1/4 cup finely chopped nuts. In third part put 1/4 cup cherries, finely chopped and red food coloring.

Line a bread pan with wax paper and spread first part of dough in pan. Then second part of dough then third part of dough. Cover. Chill overnight. Then cut the dough in half or thirds. Bake on cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. These freeze. good.
