ROUND STEAK WITH RICH GRAVY 
3 lbs. beef round steak, 1 inch thick
1/3 c. all purpose flour
3 tbsp. shortening
1 env. (1 1/2 oz.) dry onion soup mix
1/2 c. water
1 can (10 1/2 oz.) condensed cream of mushroom soup

Sprinkle one side of meat with 1/2 the flour; pound in. Turn meat and pound remaining flour. Cut meat into 6 to 8 serving pieces. Melt shortening in large skillet, brown meat in shortening over medium heat, about 15 minutes. Sprinkle dry onion soup mix over meat. Mix water and canned soup, pour over meat. Cover tightly simmer 1 1/2 to 2 hours or until tender. Place meat on warm platter. Heat remaining gravy mixture to boiling, stirring constantly, pour over meat. Serves 6 to 8 servings. Can be made ahead of time and heated.
