APPLE CAKE 
2 c. flour
1 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 c. oatmeal
3/4 c. melted butter
1/2 tsp. salt
Apples, peeled and sliced
1/2 c. white sugar
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1 c. water
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Mix flour, brown sugar, oatmeal, butter, and salt with a fork until well mixed and crumbly. Reserve 1 cup for top of cake. Line 8-inch square cake pan with mixture. Place apple slices on rows over mixture in cake pan.

Make custard of white sugar, cornstarch, water, vanilla, and cinnamon. Cook until thick and pour over apples. Sprinkle on 1 cup of reserved topping. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Serve warm. Serves 12.
