GREAT - GRANDMOTHER'S BANANA
CAKE
 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs, separated
4 tbsp. sour milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 2/3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. walnuts, chopped
1 c. bananas, mashed
2 bananas, whole
1 pt. whipping cream

Cream sugar and shortening. Add 2 egg yolks, slightly beaten. Add milk, vanilla, mashed bananas. Add sifted flour and soda; add nuts. Fold in beaten egg whites. Pour into 2 (9 inch) round cake pans, greased and floured. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until top springs up from touch. Cool on racks. Assemble with whipped cream and sliced bananas between and on top. Cover sides with whipped cream. Serve immediately. Serves 8 to 10.
