SAUERBRATEN 
3-4 lb. bottom round beef
2 onions, sliced
3 bay leaves
6-8 whole cloves
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 and 1/2 - vinegar and water to cover

Put meat in glass dish. Add onions and spices.

Heat vinegar, water and sugar. Pour over meat. Place in cool place 3-4 days. Turn meat each day.

Dry meat and brown on all sides, adding vinegar, and simmer 3 1/2 hours or until meat is tender. Make gravy.

Can serve with mashed potatoes, noodles or potato balls.

POTATO BALLS:

6 med. potatoes, boiled and mashed
2 beaten eggs
3/4 c. flour
1/2 c. bread crumbs
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
