SPONGE CANDY 
1 c. sugar
1 c. dark corn syrup
1 tbsp. cider vinegar
1 tbsp. baking soda

In 2 quart saucepan, heat sugar, syrup, and vinegar until boiling. Boil, without stirring, to 300 degrees on candy thermometer or until small amount of mixture dropped into very cold water separates into thread, that are hard and brittle. Remove from heat. Quickly stir in baking soda thoroughly. Pour mixture into ungreased oblong pan. Do not spread. Cool. Break into pieces. Makes about 3 dozen pieces.
