1 1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 1/2 c. flour
1 c. applesauce
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. raisin (or dates and nuts)

Bake in loaf pan. Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg, beat well. Add applesauce. Mix flour, salt, soda, spice, nuts and raisins. Add to above mixture and bake at 350 degrees 35 to 40 minutes.
