APPLE BROWN BETTY 
3 c. bread crumbs
1 1/2 c. sugar
Cinnamon
3/4 c. butter
2 c. peeled apples, thinly sliced

Put a layer of apples in buttered 9 x 12 inch baking dish; sprinkle with sugar. Add a layer of bread crumbs; season with bits of butter and cinnamon; repeat until dish is filled. Then pour over 3/4 cup water. Cover and bake slowly for one hour, then uncover and brown. Almonds or raisins may be added to make it more tempting. May be served with hard sauce or cream.
