OATMEAL CAKE AND TOPPING 
1 1/4 c. boiling water
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. quick-cooking oatmeal
2 eggs
1 c. white sugar
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg

Pour boiling water over oatmeal and butter and let stand 20 minutes. Mix well. Add eggs, vanilla, white sugar and brown sugar. Sift together flour, soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg and add to mixture. Pour mixture into a 9 x 13-inch greased and floured pan and bake at 350°F for 30 to 40 minutes.

Topping:

2/3 c. brown sugar
6 tbsp. melted butter
1 c. coconut
1/4 c. cream or milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix ingredients together and spread on hot cake. Place under broiler. Heat a few minutes and watch closely until light brown.
