OVERNIGHT FRENCH TOAST | |
4 eggs, well beaten 3 cups milk 1/4 tsp. vanilla 3 tbsp. confectioners' sugar scant teaspoon salt 8 slices bread, about 1-inch thick melted butter, as needed Maple syrup, jam or fruit Beat together eggs, milk, vanilla, sugar and salt. Pour into a large, shallow bowl. Dip bread into mixture, turning to coat both sides. Place slices in single layer on a large baking sheet with sides. Pour remaining egg mixture evenly over top. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Next morning, slowly brown slices on both sides in a large skillet, using just enough butter to keep from sticking. Keep warm until all slices are cooked. Serve with maple syrup, jam, applesauce or fruit. Makes 8 servings. |
