HEAVENLY APPLE BREAD WITH
CARAMEL ICING
 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. plain flour
1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 3 tbsp. sour milk
2 c. apples, chopped

Beat shortening, sugar and eggs. Add sour milk mixture and vanilla. Sift flour and add to mixture. Stir in apples. Bake in loaf pan about 1 hour in 325 degree oven.

ICING:

1/2 c. butter
2 tbsp. milk
1 c. brown sugar

Boil 3 or 4 minutes. Add enough powdered sugar to make into spreadable consistency. Add 1/4 cup finely chopped nuts and spread on bread.
