Cooking apple (real Yellow Delicious works best) Grape juice, processed, but no sugar Extra sugar, only if desired Peel and core 1 peck of yellow Delicious apples. Other apples may be substituted, but I find these apples are the best. Put apples in large cooking pot and cook as you would for applesauce. When applesauce is ready, add enough grape juice to flavor to your taste. If you use tree ripened apples you probably will not need sugar. The dried end product is sweeter than the sauce. Place on dryer sheets in your dehydrator. About 1/8" evenly spread is about right. Leather is usually ready in 1 day. Make sure there are no wet spots. Precut wax paper to fit strips of leather. Work one sheet at a time. Cut with knife, roll in paper and store. |
