APPLE SQUARES 
2 3/4 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. plus 2 tbsp. shortening
1 egg yolk, beaten
Milk
1 c. crushed corn flakes
8 c. sliced and peeled apples
2/3 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg white, stiffly beaten

Sift flour and salt. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Add enough milk to egg yolk to make 1/2 cup. Add flour mixture and blend. Divide dough into two parts. Roll half of dough to fit 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 inch jelly roll pan.

Sprinkle bottom crust with corn flakes. Combine apples, sugar and cinnamon. Spread apple mixture over bottom crust on top of corn flakes. Roll out other half of dough and place on top. Pinch edges together to seal. Beat egg white stiff and brush over top crust. Bake at 400 degrees for 50-60 minutes or until golden.

ICING:

1 c. confectioners sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1-2 tbsp. water

Mix and ice while still warm. Makes 16 servings.
