1 c. unsifted flour
2/3 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 c. cooking oil
1 egg
2 c. shredded apples
1 c. chopped dates

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine all ingredients in large mixing bowl; stir until dry ingredients are moistened. Spread in 8-inch glass baking dish, greased on bottom only. Bake for 30 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Serve with whipped topping. Raisins may be substituted for dates. Nuts can also be added.
