3 c. sifted flour 3 eggs unbeaten 1/2 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. water 1 jigger rum or rye Shortening Powdered sugar Sift flour; add eggs one at a time and work into the flour. Add sugar, salt and water, then rum or rye. Form a dough and roll out on well floured board. Roll very thin and cut in strips about 1 1/2 inch wide and 5 inches long. Make a small cut in the middle of each strip and pull one end through. Heat shortening in large saucepan. Fry strips, 8 or 10 at a time, until slightly brown. Drain on a piece of unglazed paper and sprinkle with powdered sugar. |
