2 tbsp. shortening
1 egg, beaten
1 c. corn meal
1 c. flour
1 c. sugar
Pinch of salt
1 c. sour milk
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream shortening, sugar, beaten egg and salt together. Add cornmeal 1/2 at a time with 1/4 of the sour milk. Then add 1/2 cup of flour and last half cup of milk to which you add the teaspoon of soda. Then add last half cup of flour. Mix and pour into greased 8 or 9 inch square pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or when tester comes out clean.
