CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
Chocolate chips
Nuts (if desired)

Cream shortening and sugars until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; cream until light and fluffy. Add dry ingredients slowly and mix well. Fold in chips (and nuts if desired). Drop by teaspoonful onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes (or until a light golden brown).
