CRACKED SUGAR COOKIES 
1 1/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. butter
3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar

Heat oven to 350. Lightly grease 2 cookie sheets.

Cream sugar and butter. Beat in yolks and vanilla. Sift together dry ingredients. Fold into cream mixture.

Form dough into balls. Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheets. Do not flatten. Bake for about 11 minutes until tops are cracked and just turning color. Cool on wire rack. Makes about 4 dozen.
