SWEDISH KALOPS 
(Braised Short Ribs):

1 tbsp. butter
2 lb. short ribs
1 med. onion, sliced
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. allspice
2 bay leaves
1 c. hot water
1/4 c. water
1 tbsp. flour
2 tbsp. heavy cream
1 tsp. sugar
Noodles

Melt butter in Dutch oven. Add ribs. Cook over high heat until browned on all sides. Add onion, push down into fat around ribs with fork. Cook several minutes, until browned. Add salt, pepper, sugar, allspice, bay leaves and hot water. Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours, or until tender. Remove ribs to platter; keep hot. Skim about 1/4 cup of fat from meat juices. Mix flour into 1/4 cup water. Slowly add flour mixture, stirring all the time, to make gravy. Cook until thickened.

Stir in cream and 1 teaspoon sugar; bring to a boil. Pour over ribs. Serve with noodles.
