THE BEST COCOA BROWNIES 
1/2 c. vegetable shortening or butter
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. unsweetened cocoa
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream shortening and sugar and vanilla until fluffy. Add eggs, beat well. Combine cocoa, baking powder, salt and add to shortening mixture. Mix well.

Stir in nuts. Spread batter evenly in greased 9 inch square pan. Bake 20 to 25 minutes. Cool. Cut in squares. Makes 16.
