JALAPENO CORN BREAD 
1 c. cornmeal
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 can cream style corn
1 slightly beaten egg
1/3 c. shortening
2/3 c. buttermilk
1 (4 oz.) can finely chopped green chili peppers
1 c. shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

Combine all ingredients except cheese in bowl. Mix well and pour half of butter into hot greased 9 inch baking pan. Sprinkle cheese on top and cover with remaining batter. Bake at 375 degrees for 30-40 minutes. Yield: 6-9 servings. Great with a bowl of chili on a cold snowy night.
