MAPLE BARS 
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. maple syrup
1 egg
2/3 c. flour
1 c. rolled oats
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Cream sugar and shortening; add maple syrup, egg, and vanilla; beat well. Thoroughly mix in the dry ingredients; add the nuts. Spread in a greased 9x9 pan. Bake 25-30 minutes at 350 degrees.
