1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sifted powdered sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 tsp. salt

Cream butter with sugar, add eggs and vanilla and beat well. Blend in dry ingredients, you may have to use your hands to mix. Drop on greased cookie sheets and bake at 400 degrees for 8 minutes.
