3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening or butter
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1 pkg. chocolate chips
1 c. nuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In large bowl beat shortening, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla until creamy. Add eggs. Mix flour, soda and salt together. Gradually add to mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 9 x 11 minutes. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
