1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
3 1/2 c. plain flour
4 eggs
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 lb. orange slice candy, chopped
2 c. nuts, chopped
1/2 tsp. salt
1 box sugar coated dates
1 can coconut

Mix together and bake at 250 degrees for 2 1/2 hours.

ICING:

2 c. powdered sugar
1 c. orange juice, fresh from orange
1 tsp. grated orange rind

Mix and put on cake while hot.
