HIMMEL TORTE 
3 egg yolks
1 c. sugar
1 c. dry bread crumbs
1 c. chopped dates
1/2 c. chopped nuts
2 tsp. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
3 egg whites, stiffly beaten

Beat egg yolks. Add sugar, bread crumbs, dates, nuts, flour, baking powder and vanilla. Add stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Cool - cover and let season for a day.

Crumble torte in 1 inch cubes. Assemble a mound of layers of sliced fruit (bananas, pineapple, oranges, fruit cocktail - your choice) with layers of torte in between. Cover entire mound with a thick layer of whipped cream. Garnish with cherries and pecans. Use a pretty glass plate for this dessert. I like to make it at Christmas.
