GRANDMA'S DONUTS | |
2 cakes yeast 1/2 c. warm water 1/2 c. shortening 1/2 c. hot water 1 c. cold water 2 tsp. salt 2 eggs 8 1/2 c. flour Sugar Cinnamon Dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside. In large bowl, mix hot water, shortening, salt, eggs and cold water. Beat well. When mixture is lukewarm, add yeast and flour. Let rise until double in bulk. Pat (DO NOT ROLL) dough to about 1 inch thickness. Cut into doughnuts, cover with clean dish towel, let rise until double. Fry in deep fat until brown on both sides. Drain on brown paper bag. Roll in sugar or cinnamon sugar. Eat while warm or store in covered container. |
