BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES | |
15-20 cucumbers, sliced thin with skin on 1/2 c. salt 1 tsp. ground cloves 1 tsp. turmeric 1 tbsp. celery seed 8 lg. onions, sliced thin 2 lg. green peppers, sliced thin 1 tray of ice cubes 4 to 5 c. vinegar 2 tbsp. mustard seed Bury tray of ice cubes in layers of cucumbers, onions, and peppers. Pour salt over all and let set 3 hours. Drain well and add vinegar, sugar, cloves, turmeric and mustard and celery seed. Heat to scalding temperature and seal in jars while hot. Very good! |
