BEAN SOUP 
1 c. Navy beans
1 c. can tomatoes
1 1/2 tbsp. minced onion
1/4 c. chopped celery
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. chili powder
1/2 lb. ground beef
1/3 c. minced carrots
1 med. diced potatoes
1/4 c. rice
1/4 tsp. pepper

Wash beans and cover well with water and soak overnight. In a.m. drain off unabsorbed water. Add meat, vegetables and seasonings with 1 1/2 quarts of cold water; bring to boiling point, then simmer until beans are tender (about 3 hours). This makes a delicious soup for cold weather.
