FRUIT COCKTAIL BARS 
1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs
2 tbsp. molasses
1 c. raisins
1 c. fruit cocktail, drained
1 1/2 c. nuts
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. grated lemon rind
1 tsp. baking soda in 3 tbsp. hot water

Cream shortening and sugar; add vanilla, eggs, molasses, lemon rind and soda dissolved in hot water. Sift together flour, cloves, cinnamon and salt. Add gradually to mixture. Fold in raisins, fruit cocktail and nuts. Spread batter on greased sheet pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. Cut into 1 1/2 inch squares, when cool. Sprinkle top with confectioners' sugar.
