20 qt. soft water
2 c. Whisk
6 2/3 c. soft lard
1 can lye
2 c. sudsy ammonia
1/4 oz. fragrance - optional (sassafras oil is nice)

Mix half the water in a 5-gallon plastic pail or jar. Add lye and stir. Add rest of the ingredients. Stir once every day. Will set and be ready to use in 3 weeks or less.

Use 1/2 cup per load. If your machine has a suds-saver feature, add 1/4 cup for each additional load washed.
