DATE NUT BREAD 
1/2 c. boiling water
1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. dates, cut up
1 tbsp. plus 1 tsp. butter
3/4 tsp. baking soda
3/4 c. plus 2 tbsp. all purpose flour
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. nuts, chopped

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 1 pound coffee can. Pour boiling water on raisins, dates, butter and soda. Let stand until cool. Beat in remaining ingredients. Pour into coffee can. Bake about 60 to 65 minutes.
