MAPLE CANDIED WALNUTS 
1 c. sugar
1 tbsp. light corn syrup
1/3 c. water
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. maple flavoring
1 tbsp. butter
2 c. walnut halves

Mix corn syrup, sugar, water and salt in heavy saucepan. Stir over low heat until sugar is dissolved. Boil until mixture reaches soft-ball stage (238 degrees) on candy thermometer.

Remove from heat, blend in maple flavoring, and butter. Add walnuts and stir gently until mixture becomes creamy. Turn onto waxed paper and separate nuts and eat!!!!

My mother made these every Christmas as long as I can remember. That would be somewhere around early 1960s. They are very good and make great gifts!
