2 c. self rising flour
1/2 c. lard or Crisco
3/4 c. milk or water
In bread tray or b owl sift flour to a mound. Make a well in the mound and put the lard in. With the hands, mix some of the flour with the lard and add the water/milk. When that is mixed well, add more milk and gradually work in flour until all of the milk is used. Keep working in the flour and knead it a little to make a dough that can be handled well. If making biscuits, pinch off biscuit size pieces and with both hands roll in palms to make a ball and place in lightly floured pan, not quite touching (or biscuits may be cut out). When all of the biscuits are in the pan, flatten them some with your fingers on floured fork, so they barely touch. Bake in a preheated 400 degree oven about 12 minutes or until brown on top.
