LEKVAR CAKE | |
4 1/2 c. flour 1 c. sugar 1/2 lb. butter 4 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 1 1/2 c. sour cream 2 tbsp. milk 4 egg yolks 3 c. nuts, ground fine, sweetened with sugar Rind of 1 lemon, grated 1 (18 oz.) jar lekvar 4 egg whites Combine first 8 ingredients to make a dough. The dough will be very moist and may be easier to roll between 2 sheets of waxed paper. Add more flour if needed. Roll dough into 3 balls; 2 large and 1 small. Roll out 1 large ball and put in 1 (9 x 13 inch) pan or 2 (9 x 9 inch) pans. Top with 2 cups sweetened nuts; press down with fork. Roll out other large ball and place on top of nuts. Cover with lekvar and sprinkle with remaining nuts. Roll out last ball and cut into strips. Place in criss-cross fashion on top of lekvar. Brush with egg whites mixed with a few drops of water. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. |
