ANISE TOAST 
2 cubes butter
1 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 tbsp. anise extract
1 tbsp. milk
3 c. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. slivered almonds or pecans, optional

Cream butter, salt, sugar, eggs and flavoring, milk. Beat real good. Add dry ingredients a little at a time. Dough is thick. Divide dough in 4 parts. Flour a piece of wax paper about 1/2 - 3/4 cup flour. Place 1 part of dough on flour and roll over flour so as to handle dough and roll like a sausage.

Roll this onto cookie sheet and stretch dough about 8 inches long so that it comes out 3/4 inch thick and about 2 inches wide. Put 2 rolls on one cookie sheet.

Preheat oven 375 degrees 15 minutes. Bake 15-20 minutes. Cool a little. Slice 1/2 inch wide. Turn on side in same cookie sheet. Bake 18-20 minutes, golden brown. Remove from oven. Sprinkle with powdered sugar with sifter right away over all of toast.
