GRANDMA'S BREAD PUDDING 
3 tbsp. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/4 tsp. baking soda
2 c. milk
2 eggs
Pinch of salt
2 c. stale bread, broken into 1/2 inch pieces (more or less for wet or dry)

Melt butter in pan. Add sugar. Heat until well blended. Dissolve soda in milk, add gradually to sugar mixture. Stir until well blended, set aside to cool.

Beat eggs lightly, add salt and cooled milk and sugar mixture. Put bread pieces into greased baking dish. Pour custard mixture over bread. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for almost 45 minutes. Should yield 6 servings.

For a different taste, add 1 cup peeled, chopped apple, also raisins and cinnamon.
