MILE HIGH BISCUITS 
3 c. flour, sifted
4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
2 1/2 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c. shortening
1 egg
1 c. milk

Sift dry ingredients. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles cornmeal. Beat eggs and add milk. Mix in the dry ingredients with a fork until dough holds together. Turn on a floured board. Knead lightly and roll 1" thick. Cut with a biscuit cutter and put on a baking sheet. Preheat oven to 450 degrees and bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
