BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE 
3 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. flour
1 c. buttermilk
1/2 tsp. baking soda
5 eggs

Dissolve soda in 1 teaspoon hot water. Mix as other cakes and add beaten whites last. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 1/2 hours.
