DATE NUT ROLL 
2 c. sugar
1 c. milk
1/2 of 8 oz. pkg. dates
1/2 c. nutmeats
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine sugar and milk. Cook on moderate heat until it forms a firm ball when dropped in cold water. Remove from heat and add chopped dates. Beat it until it becomes stiff, then add nuts and vanilla. Pour onto a damp cloth. Shape into a roll and allow to set and cool. Slice.
