BUTTERMILK COOKIES 
3 c. sugar
2 c. shortening
4 eggs
2 c. buttermilk
3 tbsp. vanilla
6-7 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tbsp. baking powder

Beat sugar, shortening and eggs well. Add buttermilk and vanilla, mixing well. Combine dry ingredients and add to buttermilk mixture.

Drop by teaspoon on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 425 degrees about 6 minutes. Makes about 14 dozen. Recipe makes lots of "fat soft delicious" cookies that freeze well if you can keep 'em around long enough.

May sprinkle with colored sugar, add icing of your choice or use the following recipe.

ICING:

1 c. sugar (granulated)
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. butter
1 box confectioners' sugar
Vanilla

Combine sugar, milk and butter. Bring to a boil; cook 1 minute. Cool. Beat in some vanilla and 1 box of confectioners' sugar.
